Digital Delight: Nick Karsten short interview in english

DIGITAL DELIGHT INTERVIEW: NICK KARSTEN

Here are some highlights from my interview at Digital Delight show last week. We were talking about the beginning of my career, about my first track I made last year and my time in Miami. You can read all about it here in my news section. There are more interesting things opening for the future so stay tuned and don’t forget to follow me at all my social networks.

Why did you become a DJ?
It is easy to answer this question. Music is my companion since I was young. I can really express a lot of things through music and be one with it. Beside that I am more technical type of a guy. That brought me to electronic music and eventually becoming a DJ. I started with electronic music in the time when Swedish House Mafia was rising.

You started your music career in Ljubljana as a resident at Ultra. Can you tell us more about it?
It was great at the times Ultra was still active. There were always a lot of people in the club. I also got a lot of new connections for the future. I have good experience from Ultra and had a lot more work after that.

Now you are headed on the way of production. Last year you did your first track Love is gone. Tell me something about the track. How did it start?
Love is gone is a project lasting almost through entire summer and fall last year. I invited well known singer Lara Love from music group Leeloojamais to do the vocal. I tried to create a track in the way to make it appropriate for wider audience. It’s not focused only in one genre of music. We can find house as electro house, progressive house maybe even a little bit of trance in between. There is also a violin played live in the studio. This means that the sound is much more soft and genuine. I try to put live instruments in my tracks so it's not only electronic music.

So you are going to be in the studio working during this summer days.
I will start with a new project during the summer.

You were also in Miami this year in March. Can you describe your experience?
It was definitely one of the best experiences at music field. It is an event that annually attracts around 10.000 people from all around the world. Miami is a world EDM capital for 7 – 10 days and there is music 24 hours a day at every club, bar, hotel, restaurant etc. The atmosphere is unbelievable. Have to say there are two main events. One of them is Winter Music Conference where all the important people from music industry gather. Other is Ultra Music Festival where you can see performing the world known DJs like Afrojack, Tiesto and Nicky Romero. We also had Slovenian DJs Umek and Beltek at Ultra. Mike Vale was there in Miami but performing in the clubs. They did a really good job. I also performed in one club. It was definitely something different like the scene over here.

Do you have a message for our listeners at the end?
Listen to the music. It’s definitely creating great memories that last forever.
